Bloody Monday,17 killed, over 200 injured in Kashmir

The alleged desecration of holy Quran in United State added up to already high tempers in Kashmir valley leading to one of the bloodiest days in the present unrest. Seventeen people were killed and over two hundred injured in fresh wave of killings, the toll in present unrest has risen to 88.

Five persons were killed and over 50 injured in firing and teargas shelling by security forces in Kunzer Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sources said that 12 person among the injured have sustained bullet injuries. A doctor at the local hospital said that 2 persons were declared brought dead and one of the 12 with bullet injuries succumbed to wounds in Sub District Hospital later. Two others died in Srinagar hospital. The slain youth have been identified as Mudassir Ahmad Parray, Tariq Ahmad Ganie, Abdul Qayoom son of Mohammad Akhbar of Tengmarg, Muhammad Iqbal Malla and Ikhlaq Ahmad.

The firing by the security forces followed the arson of government buildings A Biscoe school in Tangmarg, Block Development Officer’s Office, Court chamber, Tehsildar’s official, Vehicle and residence, social Welfare Office, Patwar Office, besides two huts of Tourism Department.

A woman, Rafiqa Teli was killed when police and paramilitary CRPF troopers opened fire to disperse protesters near Ompura in central Kashmir Budgam.

A 24-year-old youth was killed and three others gravely injured when paramilitary Border Security Force allegedly opened fire in Ajas area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday. The slain youth has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat.

Four persons were killed and nine others injured in firing by police and CRPF in Humhama area near Srinagar Airport following attack on police post. The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Rasool Tantary (50), Nazir Ahmad Kuchay, Showkat Ahmad Mir—Separatist leader of JKLF (R) and Javed Ahmed. A cop was killed when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle carrying injured persons to hospital, locals said. However, a police spokesman said that the Constable Divender Singh son of Omkar Singh died off injuries he suffered in “mob violence”.

Two persons identified as Danish Nabi son of Ghulam Nabi Kumar and Mudasir Ahmad Dar were killed while two others were injured in firing by CRPF and police in Char-e-Sherief Budgam, official sources said.

Two persons were killed and over two dozen injured when police and paramilitary CRPF troopers opened fire on protesters at Kadalbal Pampore on Srinagar-Jammu highway in south Kashmir.The slain include Ajaz Ahmed Gojri and Javed Ahmed Rather.

A youth identified as Aqib Ahmad was killed and many others injured when security forces opened fire to disperse stone pelting mob in Sarnal Anantnag. 23-year-old youth was killed and several injured in Chankhan Sopore when police and security forces opened fire to quell a highly surcharged mob. The slain youth has been identified as Mohammad Rafiq Teli

Three persons were injured when police resorted to tear smoke shelling and opened few rounds to disperse the protesters. They have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad son of Bashir Ahmad of Mujgund, Muzaffar Ahmad son of Abdul Rahim of Mujgund and Bilal Ahmad Tantray son of Abdul Rashid Tantray of Panznair. All the injured have been admitted in JVC Hospital in Bemina, official said.

At least four persons were injured when police and CRPF personnel opened fire to disperse pro-freedom demonstrators in Shalimar area in city outskirts this afternoon, reports quoting eyewitness said. There condition is stated be stable.

At least 20 persons were wounded when police and paramilitary CRPF troopers opened fire to disperse protesters Tangmerg area this afternoon.

Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has said that government has a bounded duty to protect life and property of the people. He said a large scale of violence was carried out as a result of the alleged desecration of the holy Quran which has been condemned by the government already. He said 158 including 113 policemen were injured in the clashes.

Meanwhile the 24x7 strict Curfew has been clamped to more areas in the valley.

Official sources said that Curfew continues in Srinagar city while Hyderpora to Budgam has been brought under the purview of the clampdown, one of the toughest in present unrest. Curfew also continued in Islamabad, Bijbehara, Pulwama, Awantipora Lethpora, Pampore, Sopore, and Bandipora towns. For the first time since the three-month old unrest started, authorities did not relax curfew last night and deployment of security forces continued in curfew-bound areas through the night.

The spokesman said that during the last night, miscreants set on fire two storied building in the Peerbagh area of Budgam district. The fire was brought under control, the spokesman added. Miscreants also damaged the Indira Gandhi Airport Road at Peerbagh, the official said.

At Humhama a mob put on fire one railway Hut and an abandoned house belonging to minority community, police said.

SHMS appeals for blood donation


Srinagar, Sept 13:

As over a hundred people were injured in one of the bloodiest days in Kashmir valley in present unrest, the SMHS hospital in the heart of the city is facing acute shortage of blood, prompting an appeal by the authorities for donation of the haemoglobin.

Superintendent of the hospital has issued an appeal to the people across the valley to come forward and donate blood which would save a precious life. The Superintendent called this office and underlined that acute blood shortage was felt in the blood bank of the hospital.

The superintendent said that donors can contact the office on 9419000231 and Principal: 0194-2453114. The hospital has made transport available for donors across the Srinagar city.

Separatists calls for calm in Kashmir


Srinagar, Sept 13:

The chairmen of parallel factions of separatists Hurriyat Conference Monday called for calm in Kashmir valley which witnessed large scale loss of life and property following alleged reports about the desecration of holy Quran in United state.

In a statement here, the hardliner separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani urged people to exercise maximum restraint over the reported desecration of the Quran in America.

“Sentiments of Muslims have been hurt by the desecration of Quran but we have to control our emotions and not create such a situation which could give a chance to vested interests to defame Islam and our movement,” he said in a tele-address at Sumbal in Bandipora district.

The octogenarian leader condemned the attacks on Christian Missionary School in Tangamarg, terming it handiwork of “vested interests”.

The separatist leader said teachings of Quran does not approve attacks on the minority communities or their establishments. “I urge the Muslims to protect the members of minority community and their religious places. We should at any cost maintain the age old communal harmony and brotherhood for which Kashmir is known World over,” he said while hailing the role of Christian missionaries in dissemination of education.

Strongly condemning the reported desecration of the Holy Quran, the moderate separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also appealed people to register their protest in peaceful manner while avoiding arson of public property.

In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz Umar and senior Hurriyat leader Aga Syed Al Hassan Mousvi strongly denouncing the “evil and insane” act and said that the sentiment of Muslims across the globe had been hurt.

“However, we appeal the whole Muslim Ummah and Kashmiris in particular to register their protest in a civilized manner and not to cause damage to any kind of public property,” they said, while condemning the burning of Tyndale Biscoe School in Tangmarg. “This could have repercussions on our peaceful struggle,” they added.

The Hurriyat leaders said right from the beginning, anti-Islam and anti-Quran Zionist forces had been on the lookout for such deplorable evil acts to provoke and hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims as they know that Muslims can stand anything but the desecration of their religion and Prophet Mohammad(SAW).
