50 injured fresh Kashmir violence
Srinagar, August 16: At-least fifty persons including two women were injured in fresh violence across the Kashmir valley where curfew remained in forces for the fourth consecutive day.
Two persons sustained serious injuries when security forces opened fire at a stone-pelting mob that attacked two CRPF vehicles at Aabghar in Tral town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The duo, identified as Hilal Ahmad Dar and Suhail Ahmad were referred to SHMS and SKIMS here. Condition of both of them were stated to be very critical, when last reports came in.
“A mob of stone-pelters attacked the vehicles of security forces near Aabghar in Tral town and started vandalizing them. The security forces fired in self defense and two persons and four CRPF men were injured,” a police spokesman said here. The official said that one the vehicles was completely damaged.
In Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, despite curfew hundreds of people youth took to streets in Tengpora locality of Batmaloo and started pelting stones at the security forces and the police.
After baton charge and teargas shelling failed to disperse the mob, they said, security forces opened fire in which six persons were injured. One of the injured youth, Waseem Ahmad Khan was rushed to SKIMS for specialized treatment. He sustained bullet in the leg, officials said.
Security forces were also confronted by a stone-pelting mob over a dozen other places.
Officials said that the security forces burst tear smoke shells to control a demonstrations that broke out in Safa Kadal, Hyderpora, Nishat, Rambagh, Chanpora, Natipora, Batmaloo, Qamarwari,Parimpora, Bemina,Shalimar, Hawal, Barzulla, Rambagh and other parts of the city. As many twelve people suffered injuries in the ding-dong clashes between protesters and the forces.
“At Shalimar Chowk, a mob had blocked the road. The mob was chased away in which a lady Sayeeda fell down, she was shifted to SKIMS in unconscious state where she has regained her consciousness,” the police spokesman said.
At Aloochi Bagh, a woman was injured when a tear smoke shell fired by the forces hit her on chest. The injured woman, Nayeema, wife of Riyaz Ahmad Beig was rushed to SMHS hospital for treatment.
Reports of peaceful demos were received from Humhama, Nigeen, Rawalpora, Wanabal and Hyderpora. .
Reports from north Kashmir said that groups of youth took to streets in Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Palhalan, Bumhama, Drugmulla, Kulangam, Trehgam, Chogal, Langate and Bandipora. At least twenty persons sustained injuries in the clashes.
Reports of protests were also received from Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts. More than fifteen persons were injured in clashes between the stone-pelting youth and the security forces.
Meanwhile, shops and business markets, educational institutions, banks and private offices were closed and traffic was off the roads
