K-unrest: 1500 CRPF, 300 policemen arrive from Jammu

Traffic cops to man situation

Srinagar August 2nd:

As the situation in Kashmir runs hostile, at-least 15 companies of paramilitary CRPF and about 300 policemen were rushed to valley from Jammu on Monday to argument the already heavy deployment of the forces in the Valley.

Besides traffic as well as personnel associated with Crime Branch wings of the police have been directed to report for the “law and order” services.

Official sources said that 15 companies of the CRPF, comprising 1500 men were rushed to the Valley this morning from Jammu.

They said that the companies have been distributed into three battalions each comprising of five hundred personnel. “They have been named as Adhoc-Jammu one, two and three,” Public Relation Officer, CRPF Jammu said. He said that the while the Adhoc-Jammu-one will be headed by V K Trvedi, two and three would be commanded by A K Singh and D Yadav.

The deputizing of the forces comes in the back drop of the deteriorating situation in Kashmir where at-least 36 persons have been killed by police and CRPF in the latest unrest that began June 11 with the killing of Tufail Ahmad Mattoo in old city here. 19 persons have died in past four days.

Sources said that apart from the paramilitary troops, three hundred policemen have also been sent to the restive valley. “The personnel have been deputed to the valley from various districts of the Jammu,” IG Ashok Gupta said.

While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged New Delhi for more forces to augment the already heavy deployment of forces, the personnel positioned to man the traffic and those working in crime branch of the police have also been directed to report with the police wings that are dealing with the present turbulent situation.

Pertinently, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked New Delhi for more paramilitary forces and Rapid Action Force “which specialise in dealing with public protests” to the Kashmir. He said that Home Minister P Chidambaram has assured him help in this regard.(with Inputs from Maroof Ahmad Newspoint)
