Secretary Bar arrested, booked under PSA

Srinagar, July 18: The authorities have booked the General Secretary of High Court Bar Association, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen under the black law, Public Safety Act (PSA).

Ghulam Nabi Shaheen was arrested from Lethpora on Saturday night. Earlier, he had led a protest demonstration in Srinagar in support of the demand for release of the Bar President, Mian Abdul Qayoom.

The Bar General Secretary was on way to his Tral residence when Indian police intercepted him and took him in custody. He was immediately booked under the PSA and sent to Rajouri jail.

Killing of student allegedly by police in Baramulla condemned


Srinagar, July 18 : APHC leader and the Acting Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, has strongly condemned the Killing of a 7th class student, Faizan Rafiq Buhroo by Indian police personnel in Baramulla town.

Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the troops beat up and chased to death the innocent student.

“The youth got drowned in water when Indian Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel went berserk and beat up the youth and one of them pushed him into the River Jhelum,” he added.

He termed the killing as barbaric and inhuman. “Indian troopers are targeting innocent Kashmiris, which is intolerable. They are on killing spree in the occupied territory,” he maintained.

Appealing the world to take cognisance of the human rights violations in the territory, he said that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved through tripartite dialogue process including Pakistan, India and the real leadership of the Kashmiris.

On the other hand, the spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Mahaz-e-Azadi, in a statement issued in Srinagar, strongly denounced the killing of a student in Baramulla town. “On one side India talks about peace and on the other its troops are continuing the genocide of the Kashmiri people,” he deplored.

Commenting on the recent Indo-Pak foreign ministers level meeting, he said that India should give up its rigid stance on Kashmir and read the writing on the wall. “Peace and stability in South Asia cannot prevail until Kashmir dispute is resolved,” he added.

7th class boy killed, curfew, restrictions imposed


Srinagar, July 18: The drowning of a 7th class student after being beaten up by the personnel of Special Operations Group of Police in Baramulla town, sparked massive protests.

Eyewitnesses told media men that on the Saturday evening SOG men in a private truck chased protesters in Azadgunj Bridge area of town. “The SOG men went berserk and beat up the youth and one of them was pushed into river Jhelum,” they said, adding that the youth, Faizan Rafiq Buhroo and a student of class 7, couldn’t swim across the river and drowned.

Following the incident, forceful demonstrations erupted in the town. Indian police used brute force against the demonstrators, injuring at least six persons.

The authorities clamped curfew and imposed restrictions in Srinagar and other towns of the Kashmir valley, today, to prevent people from holding anti-India and pro-liberation demonstrations.

Meanwhile, a thirty-five-year old mason, Abdul Majid Lone who was shot at and injured at Fidarpora in Rafiabad on Friday night told media men that he saw two personnel of Special Operations Group behind him after being shot.

“I was coming back from daily work and suddenly I was shot in back at about 8:30 pm. After the bullet hit me, I looked back and saw two SOG personnel behind me. They straightaway went to their camp in the area,” he said. »

Release of Bar President demanded


Srinagar, July 18: Lawyers have demanded release of the president of High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom and action against policemen and troops involved in the recent killings of innocent civilians.

Members of the Bar Association continued their boycott of the court proceedings. The lawyers assembled in the lower court complex in Srinagar and marched through Court Road and Lal Chowk, demanding release of Mian Qayoom, booked under the black law, Public Safety Act (PSA).

Condemning the killing of teenagers by the police and troops, some lawyers set on fire their black coats in protest.
