Lawyers to boycott court proceedings till July 15


Srinagar July 12: Strongly condemning the arrest of its president Main Abdul Qayoom under PSA, Kashmir High Court Bar Association (KHCBA) today decided to boycott the proceedings in courts till July 15.

The bar has also appealed amnesty international, Asia watch and other international rights groups to intervene and get the senior lawyer released.

General Secretary Bar advocate G N Shaheeen addressed media persons here today. He said that bar will also apprise US president Barrack Hussain Obama about the arrest of bar president through email.

Meanwhile writ petition in the case will be held in state high court on July 14.

“Senior lawyer’s arrest is attack on the judiciary. In 1990 also, Mian Qayoom was arrested and now he has been booked under PSA.it is for the time in the history of the wold that a sitting high court bar association president has been arrested and booked under notorious PSA,” he said while appealing amnesty international, Asia watch and other international rights groups to intervene and get the senior lawyer released.

Shaheeen said that bar will also apprise US president Barrack Hussain Obama about the arrest of bar president through email. General secretary bar said that the next programme of the bar will be announced on July 15.
